At first it was Cody w/ 61. Then he moved on to 1 million. TJ has recently settled on 16 as his favorite number. In terms of time, both believe that the greatest length of time is Uncle Mark's birthday. For example, if s/thing isn't going to happen for a while they will say, "We have to wait until Uncle Mark's birthday." or "I'm gonna keep this until it's Uncle Mark's birthday." That's probably because their Uncle Mark has the latest birthday in the year...at least until the twins arrive!

Today we were working w/ Jack on how old he is. At first he said 2, then he said 4. Finally we got him squared away & Val said, "Tristan, what do you say when someone asks you how old you are?" He replied, "Sorry." We all cracked up.

TJ & JC

The other night we were reading the Bible story where Jesus is asleep in the bottom of the boat & the storm freaks the disciples out. The picture on the page where Jesus rebukes the storm is very serene. The water is calm & the sun is setting in the background. Anyway, as soon as I finished that page Tristan piped up, "Jesus is cool!"

4 Year Old Conversation

So we were in the car today & it's been a bit stormy here in Indiana. We were headed to the library & discussing how we were safe from storms because we were in our car. Cody asked, "Why are we safe?" I told him because our tires are made of rubber. He asked how that protects us. I told him the rubber keeps us from getting electrocuted by the lightning. He asked what electrocuted means. I told him lightning is made up of electricity. He asked what electricity is. I told him it's energy. He asked what energy is. I gave up...

2 More Funnies

TJ: Whenever we come home from the DC (dining commons) I generally wrestle w/ the boys. Well, I was gone over the weekend, so this duty fell to Val. Jack wanted to consider her delicate personality, so when they returned from the DC the other night he posited, "Mommy, when we wrestle you can be the princess!"

Cody: We recorded "Madagascar" on TiVo the other day & Cody couldn't figure out who had set it to record. He asked if I'd done it & I told him, "No." I said, "Maybe Mommy did it?" He said, "No." I asked if he'd done it. He said, "No." Finally, I said, "Maybe God set it to record." I got a funny out of both boys in the matter of a minute while they played barefoot outside in 60 degree sunshine:

1) Cody lifted the back of his shirt & asked, "Daddy, am I getting a sunburn?"

2) I asked TJ if he was cold & he replied, "No, my teeth are not shaking."

Yet Another Phase

Jack has been going through a disagreement phase lately. He says the opposite of what you want him to say. This morning, he disagreed w/ Cody's choice of which show to watch. I went over & said, "Jack, you're being contradictory." I put him back to bed & he fell asleep quickly. Later that day he related his dream:

I was in my room playing with my friends when all of the sudden they disappeared. I opened my eyes & was in my bed. I looked out the window & saw scary eyes looking at me. I climbed down (he sleeps on the top bunk) & opened the bedroom door. The hallway was a dark tunnel. My friends were standing between me and 2 big monsters. My friends took out their swords & got ready to fight the monsters. I quickly grabbed my sword and my dog pulled out his sword too. The End.

I guess I've passed on my gift/curse.

The Test

The other day Val & I were talking about how the boys often come into our room during the night & it's difficult to tell them apart. They have both gotten taller & TJack is nearly as tall as Cody! Val told me her technique & I just had to share. She said when she's super sleepy & can't figure out which kid is standing there whimpering she simply feels their ears! No kidding! Cody's tend to protrude a bit...okay, a lot, while Jacks are neatly tucked next to his head. So, there you have it. Our foolproof technique to tell our kids apart in the dark. Incidently, I used it last night to discover it was Tristan complaining about s/thing on his head.

Star Wars vs. Ghost Busters

Last night was one continuous dream. I wish I could detail it in such a way that it made sense because this one was epic! Basically, the MCA (HU's performing arts building) was actually a hospital, dorm & dining commons. S/thing happened & a horrible virus had been released. I guess it turned people into zombies or s/thing like that. Anyway, the rebels (those not infected) were attempting to find a cure. We knew the enemy was hiding the cure in the MCA & we were attempting to take it back. One of our best soldiers walked around in an imperial guard outfit & staked out the lower entrance (where e/one enters for chapel). I was on the inside & came across two infected people. Then, one of our elite teams went missing inside.

This gets a bit tricky to describe. Anyway, they never came out. Once the rebels won, it was determined that they had been killed on the inside by infected people. I never believed it. From then on, students considered that building haunted. It was said that the team ate breakfast in the dining commons & no one wanted to live in the dormitory section. The loss of this team was a major blow to me emotionally. I can't remember if Val was on it or not. It's weird how it affected me. Anyway, like I stated earlier, I can't describe the emotional state of the dream, but it was epic!
